At Bible study last night we had a time of sharing some of the things God is teaching us. In our quest to know Him better it is essential that we have sisters in Christ that we can share with and learn from. Please post a comment about what God is doing in your life or a verse that is really meaningful to you right now.
At the moment, I'm learning about humility...again! God comes back to certain lessons in my life and this is one that He tweeks from time to time.
I was pondering the other day how Satan's downfall was his pride. It was in exalting himself that he fell. It is pride that constantly causes me to fall too. Jesus was different. Phil 2 describes Jesus as one "who, being in very nature God, did NOT consider equality with God something to be grasped, but MADE HIMSELF NOTHING...." Why would He do that? Isn't it interesting that the one was trying to become God and fell and the other was God and willingly, deliberately made Himself nothing! And....they are not equals...at all...whatsoever. Satan is a created being. Jesus, the Word made flesh, was in the beginning with the Father (see John 1 and John 17:5). Jesus is God.
And so, we're exhorted by Paul in Philippians 2 to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit", to "in humility consider others better than yourselves", and to have the same attitude that Jesus had. You remember, the same attitude that caused Him to become obedient to death...even death on a cross! And then, of course, there is the question: how do we practically apply this?
